All the good in an awful year

All the good in an awful year

Written by IKON Editorial

While many regarded 2020 as a crappy year, which it is, yet 2020 forced us to comprehend changes that would have previously not crossed our mind to adapt to switches that it brought forth. As we welcome the new year with new hopes and a new beginning, I manage to go around the office and ask my colleagues what they are grateful for in 2020, instead of dwelling on the depressing stuff and whine about how bad the year has been.

Here is what they have to say about the things that they are thankful for in 2020.

  1. “We have seen many unfortunate events unfolding during the pandemic, with people losing their means of income and even evicted from their homes. Many find it hard to make ends meet. I am grateful that I still have a roof over my head, and I do not go hungry.”
  2. “My daughter was born safely, amid the pandemic.”
  3. “I am thankful that our country went into lockdown. It gives me a well-needed rest and I get to spend time with my family. Prior to the country imposing MCO, I worked almost 12 hours a day and rarely spent my time with my loved ones. So, to me, the lockdown is a blessing in disguise.”
  4. “I’ve got know many incredible people who managed to pull through this year. It was good networking for me and I think it is a good start for many greater opportunities in the future.”
  5. “I’m just happy to be alive this year. The lockdown imposed on the country is a good thing. We get to have cleaner air and less traffic on the road, a simple act that we always take for granted. And with the worldwide restriction on travelling, we are forced to learn how to adapt to new technology faster than previously. It allows us to explore new things with technology.”
  6. “As a newbie fresh out of university, it was hard getting a job. Thankfully, I managed to get it. I gained new experiences and I survived the year without a hitch.”
  7. “I am not affected as compared to most people. I am grateful that I am still alive and healthy. I got to lead my team into bringing the company further. Simply speaking, I am just grateful for everything.”

2020 has indeed been a depressing year for many, while many of us might not have experienced having lost a love one to the deadly virus, however for those that do, our heart goes out to them. Amidst Malaysia’s political turmoil which has no end in sight, instead of focusing on the bad, let us pour our hearts out into hoping that 2021 has more good things in store for all of us.

Happy New Year from everyone in IKON!
